About
Designer, working slowly.
Based in Bengaluru, working with clients in Europe, North America, and across Asia.
I'm Suvam — an independent interaction designer working at the intersection of brand and product. I've spent the last decade partnering with studios, founders, and small teams on work that requires care, slowness, and an opinion.
Before going independent in 2021, I led design at two early-stage product companies and spent four years at a small London studio working on identity and editorial web. I trained as a graphic designer and came to product design through type, which is still where most of my obsessions live.
I work in long, quiet cycles — usually between six weeks and six months at a time. I take on two or three engagements at once, and I try to be honest about what I know and what I don't. Most of my work comes through repeat clients or warm introductions.
Outside of client work, I write occasionally, teach a small workshop on editorial type, and tend to a small ceramics practice on weekends.

How I think
A few principles.
01
Restraint over noise
The best design disappears into the experience. I work toward quiet, durable solutions rather than loud ones.
02
Typography is the work
Most of design is type. I obsess over type — choosing it, pairing it, setting it well at every size.
03
Process over output
Good work comes from good process. I'd rather build a thoughtful way of working than a portfolio of one-offs.
04
Honest pricing, honest scope
I quote what I think the work is worth and what I think will serve the project. No surprise change orders.
